Spousal/Common-Law Partner Sponsorship

The Spousal/Common-Law Partner Sponsorship Program enables Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for permanent residence.

Eligibility Requirements for Sponsors:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident status
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Proof of financial ability to support partner
  • No sponsorship restrictions

Eligibility Requirements for Sponsored Partners:

  • Proof of relationship
  • Meet admissibility criteria

Types of Sponsorship:

  • Inland: For couples living in Canada (includes open work permit eligibility)
  • Outland: For partners outside Canada

Parent/Grandparent Sponsorship

This program enables families to sponsor parents or grandparents for permanent residence, strengthening intergenerational family bonds in Canada. Sponsor Eligibility:

  • Pass health and security screening

Dependent Child/Relative Sponsorship

Dependent Children Criteria:

  • Under 22 years old and unmarried
  • Exceptions for dependent children with physical/mental conditions

Other Eligible Relatives:

  • Orphaned relatives (under 18, unmarried siblings/nephews/nieces/grandchildren)
  • One relative of any age if no other family eligible

Super Visa

A flexible, long-term multiple-entry option offering extended stays for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Must have a host who:

  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian
  • Minimum 18 years old and living in Canada
  • Meets minimum income requirement
  • Provides a letter of invitation

Parent/Grandparent Requirements:

  • Proof of relationship
  • Canadian medical insurance (minimum $100,000 coverage)
  • Must be outside of Canada
  • Must be admissible to Canada
